Burundi Visa Process, Visa Fee & Application Requirements

Citizens of the countries below are exempted from visas hence they do not need a visa to visit Burundi country for up to three months. These countries include Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, South Africa, and Kenya.

Citizens from the countries that are not listed above can get visas on arrival at Bujumbura International Airport at a fee of $100 per person and this is valid for a month. The month-long visa is the maximum number of travelers who enter Burundi for tourism purposes. Travelers who aren’t interested in getting the visa on arrival can either apply at the embassy of Burundi.

How to Apply for a Burundi Visa?

Below are the steps you should follow to apply for a Burundi visa:

  1. Request for an invitation letter from whoever is hosting you in Burundi.
  2. Contact the embassy/consulate of Burundi in your country.
  3. Fill out the Burundi visa application form.
  4. Gather all the required documents listed below at ‘Burundi Visa Requirements.
  5. Submit the application form and the required documents at the embassy.
  6. Wait for a response from the embassy

Below are the necessary documents

  1. A valid passport (Valid for at least 6 months after the return date)
  2. Return flight itinerary
  3. Detailed trip itinerary
  4. Proof of booked accommodation
  5. 2 passport size photos
  6. Proof of your visa fee payment
  7. Health and travel insurance
  8. Competed and signed visa application forms

Burundi Visa Types

There are two types of Burundi visas:

  1. Short-stay tourist visa.
  2. Business Visa.

Short-Stay Tourist Visa

A short-stay visa is issued to foreigners who want to visit the country for different reasons such as:

  • Tourism
  • Medical controls.
  • Business meetings.
  • Family visits.

The short-stay Burundi visa is issued as a single or multiple-entry visa.

Business Visa

Foreigners who need to enter the country for business purposes and business meetings must apply for a Burundi business visa.

Long-Stay Visas for Burundi

The Republic of Burundi does not generally have long-stay visas. If you want to stay longer than three months in the country, you can either apply for a residence permit or enter the country with a short-stay tourist visa and then apply for an extension or a residence permit.
