This 11-day gorilla, Masai mara, and Diani beach safari starts in Kigali and ends in Nairobi. The trip will take you to Volcanoes National Park and while there, you will have fun meeting the mountain gorillas that share 99% of DNA with humans. During the gorilla trek, you will have a great time meeting the gentle giants. While on this tour, you will go Golden Monkey trekking. This trip will also offer you an opportunity to explore Kigali city with a city tour which will include visiting the genocide memorial and the Belgium museum. On the sixth day of the adventure, you will proceed to Masai Mara National Reserve for a full-day game drive and a great time meeting the famous wildebeest and wildlife. Finally, this adventure will take you to one of the most beautiful parts of the Kenyan Coastal Area. Diani Beach located in the southern part of Mombasa is an ideal place to end your Kenya safari.

Detailed Itinerary: 11 Days Gorilla Trekking, Masai Mara And Diani Beach

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to the hotel

Welcome to Rwanda! Upon arrival, you will be met and greeted by your driver guide. He will take you through the trip plan and then transfer you to the hotel for relaxation and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Kigali city tour and transfer to Volcanoes National Park

At 7:00 am you will have breakfast and transfer to Kigali for the city tour. You will visit Ntarama church where you will learn more about the 1994 genocide memorial. From Nyamata church, crown the genocide history with a visit to the Gisozi genocide memorial museum where you will learn more about what transpired during the April 1994 genocide and how it went throughout the country. After lunch, you will visit the firehouse which is the area where the plane that was carrying President Habyarima was brought down, that late sparked the famous 1994 Rwanda genocide. You will then visit the Belgium Museum and learn more about Rwanda’s culture.  After the city tour, you will have lunch and then transfer to Volcanoes National Park.

Day 3: Gorilla trekking and Cultural tour

On this day, you will have a great time encountering the mountain gorillas of Volcanoes National Park! After a tasty breakfast, your guide will pick you up from the lodge and transfer you to the briefing point for a briefing by ranger guides at 7:30 and 8:30 am about the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking. With a packed lunch, you will start the trek to track the gorillas and after locating them, you will only spend a maximum of 1 hour. This walk can take approximately 4-5 hours depending on where the gorillas slept the previous night.

After the trek, you hike back out of the park for lunch. After lunch, you will be taken to the Ibwiwachu community the gorilla guidance community. This afternoon you will visit the Ibwiwachu community where you will be introduced to traditional Rwanda through traditional; dances, poems, and dressing codes among others.

Day 4: Golden monkey trekking and transfer to Kigali

This will take us through the edges of the forest via potato fields and the briefing will be conducted in the same place where the usual Kinigi park office is located this means the trekking will take us 3-4 hours after the trekking, we shall return to the lodge for lunch. After lunch, you will transfer back to Kigali in preparation for your flight the following day.

Day 5: Transfer to Kigali International Airport.

Depending on your flight schedule, you will check out of the lodge for the transfer to the airport for the flight to Nairobi. Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be driven to the hotel for relaxation, dinner, and an overnight stay.

Day 6: Transfer to Masai Mara National Reserve

After breakfast, your professional driver guide will transfer you to Masai Mara with a brief stop over at the Rift Valley viewpoint. Upon arrival at Masai Mara, you will check in at the lodge for lunch. After lunch and a few hours of relaxation, you will depart for the evening game drive.

Masai Mara is a fascinating ecosphere occupying Savannah, grassland, woodlands, and marshy forests. The national reserve harbors the “Big Five”, on top of a diversity of other plain game and a wealthy diversity of bird life. Transfer back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7: Morning and evening game drives

After an early breakfast, with the help of your guide, you will depart for a full-day game drive and explore Masai Mara in search of the wild animals found here. You will also visit to the river to witness the great wildebeest migration as they cross the river.

The Wildebeest are not the only tenants of the land. The Mara is also home to other animals namely; zebra, elephants, and giraffes, and to big cats; cheetahs, lions, and leopards. Hyena, jackal, buffalo, eland, topi, impala, gazelle, and warthog add to this huge diversity of wildlife.

After the game drives, you will be driven back to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 8: Transfer to Diani beach

After breakfast, you will depart Masai Mara for Diani Beach. Upon arrival, you will check in at the lodge and relax by the beach with seafood served at your convenience time.

Day 9: Excursion to Kisite-Mpunguti Marine Park and Wasini Island.

After an early morning breakfast, the driver will transfer you to Shimoni south of Diani where you will be registered and then be allowed to take a boat excursion to Kisite-Mpunguti and Wasin Island.

The local community is in charge of these boats and they are very knowledgeable about marine life in the Indian Ocean. At Kisite-Mpunguti Marine National Park, there are high chances of seeing Dolphins, fish species, and Coral reefs among others. While at this marine park, you are free to jump out of the boat for swimming, snorkeling, or relaxing in the middle of the ocean.

After visiting the Marine National Park, you will take a relaxed boat to Wasin Island where a variety of dishes are served. You will have a chance to taste see food and fish as well as local juice prepared by women on this Island restaurant. After lunch, you will be transferred by boat to Shimoni and then back to the lodge for relaxation, dinner, and overnight.

Day 10: Visit Shimba Hills and afternoon at leisure

After breakfast, you head out for a tour of the lovely coastal forest, rolling grasslands, and scrubland in Shimba Hills National Reserve. Throughout the visit to Shimba Hills National Reserve, you can take a leisurely walk to the charming Sheldrick Falls which outpours down a rocky cliff into an inviting pool at the bottom where you can swim. Also enjoy a game drive to see some of the reserve’s wildlife which includes elephants, buffalo, hartebeest, impala, and vervet monkeys.  Shimba Hills National Reserve is Kenya’s only protected area where the rare sable antelope can be sighted. After a day filled with adventure, you will drive back to the lodge to enjoy the seafood dinner and maybe cocktails with your feet in the sand at a Diani Beach bar overlooking the ocean.

Day 11: Transfer to the airport.

Depending on your flight schedule, you will check out of the lodge for the transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your flight back home.
