In a deep dramatic savannah, please look for buffaloes, zebras, giraffes, ostriches, hyenas, and of course big cats while at the park.
From there, you will continue to David Sheldrick elephant sanctuary head to captivate the most charming creatures feeding from giant baby bottles! While at the elephant orphanage, you will see dozens of baby elephants being fed from giant milk bottles right before you. After the feeding, you will have a chance to watch the elephant babies roll about in the mud, playing, and frolicking like young children everywhere.
This worldwide famous sanctuary rescues orphaned elephants throughout Africa and raises them with expertise and love. The Sheldrick Family has been taking in and caring for these orphaned babies for over forty years. Over 200 have now been rescued and you can experience up close the expressions of compassion and caring in this very special place. But now it’s your feeding time and we’ll have lunch at the beautiful Karen Blixen Coffee Garden.
After lunch, you will head out to visit the Karen Blixen Museum. The museum was made famous by the hit movie “Out of Africa” the lead role being played by Meryl Streep and Robert Redford. The story began from this plantation homestead and we will start our tour visiting the spacious farmhouse and grounds where Karen Blixen set up a coffee plantation and spent time with her lover the English hunter Denys Finch-Hatton. Make a way into the foot of the Ngong Hills, the plantation is where Blixen documented her time in colonial Africa in her eminent literary works. We’ll visit the rooms where she lived and worked. On display are relics from her life as well as props from the legendary movie. We’ll also learn more about Kenya’s colonial history.
The afternoon assures more exhilaration as we arrive at the giraffe center. The Giraffe Center is home to endangered giraffes and on these grounds, you can get up close and even feed on these beautiful creatures. Here at the Giraffe Centre, you can climb up the feeding tower and hand-feed a food pellet to an inquisitive giraffe. Some lucky visitors have been known to get a giraffe kiss! The Centre is a refuge for the endangered Rothschild’s giraffe. Here we’ll learn about this beautiful species at the special Information Centre. You may also find yourself surrounded by dozens of schoolchildren as this is a favorite outing for Kenya’s youngsters.
You will wrap up your tour at the brilliant Kazuri Bead Centre where female artisans create bright, hand-made ceramic jewellery. The jewelry sales help these women improve their lives. Kazuri means “small and beautiful” in Swahili and the many beads and other decorations produced here are indeed very beautiful. This handiwork is the creation of hundreds of determined and skilled women who craft these ceramic beads, making artistic jewelry that’s seen and sold all over the world. Begun in 1975 with just two single mothers, the center quickly grew as an enterprise for disadvantaged women where they could better themselves and their life opportunities. Here, we’ll be able to view the artists at work and visit the gift shop for souvenirs to support this very special business. Wrapping up our adventure of game-watching, baby animals, history, and beautiful crafts, we will bring you back to your hotel or place of your choosing.
