Detailed Itinerary: 8-Day Luxury Rwanda Gorillas And Masai Mara Safari

Day 1: Arrival at Kigali International Airport

Upon arrival at the airport, you will be met and greeted by our friendly driver guide, who will brief you and take you through your trip plan. He will transfer you to the hotel for relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 2: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, you will check out of the lodge and transfer to Volcanoes National Park, where you will check in at the gorilla lodge upon arrival. You will have lunch and then proceed to the Ellen DE Generous by Dian Fossey Museum for virtual gorilla trekking.

Day 3: Gorilla trekking at Volcanoes & Ibwiwachu visit

On this day, you will have a great time meeting the mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park! After a tasty breakfast, your guide will pick you up from the lodge. You will head for a briefing by ranger guides at 7:30 and at 8:30 am with a packed lunch. You will start the trek to hunt for the gorillas, and after finding them, you will spend a maximum of 1 hour. This walk can take 4-5 hours, depending on where you meet the gorillas. The park is steep; it is a real hike, and being physically fit is recommended.  After lunch, you will be taken to the Ibwiwachu community, the gorilla guidance community. This afternoon, you will visit the Ibwiwachu community where you will be introduced to the traditional Rwanda through traditional dances, poems, dress codes, among others.

Day 4: Golden monkey trekking & transfer to Kigali

After breakfast, you will proceed to the park briefing point for a simple briefing about the dos and don’ts of golden monkey trekking. This will take us through the edges of the forest via potato fields, and the briefing will be conducted in the same place where the usual Kinigi park office is located. This means the trek will take us 3-4 hours. After the trek, we shall return to the lodge for lunch.

After lunch, you will check out of the lodge and transfer back to Kigali.

Day 4: Transfer to the airport for the flight to Nairobi.

After breakfast, you will check out of the lodge and transfer to Kigali International Airport for the flight to Nairobi. Upon arrival at Nairobi, you will be transferred to the Villa Rosa Kempinski hotel with beautiful views.

Day 5: Transfer to Masai Mara with a game drive.

Picked from the hotel at 7:30 am after breakfast for a drive South with a stopover at the Rift Valley viewpoint for pictures. Proceed to the gate where the Camps representative will be waiting for you. After the vehicle transfer, proceed to the camp with a mini game drive.

Get to the camp, and after lunch and some relaxation, proceed for an afternoon game drive at the Olare Motorogi Conservancy.

Day 6: Morning and evening game drive.

Morning and afternoon game drives, and in between, you can have guided bush/nature walks.

Day 7: Full day game drive.

After breakfast, our guide will pick you up with a packed lunch for a full day exploring the Mara plains. In the evening, he will take you back to the camp for the night.

Day 8: Transfer to the airport.

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airstrip for your mid-morning flight to Nairobi. If time allows, dinner at a carnivore restaurant can be organized at an extra cost of USD 45 per person before drop-off at the airport.
