6-Day Luxury Kruger Safari and Panorama Route Tour Package.

Kruger Safari and Panorama Route Luxury Package

The Best 6-Day Kruger Safari and Panorama Route Luxury Tour Itinerary. Combine Big Five game drives with Blyde Canyon views on this 6-day luxury tour by JimJam Safaris. Ideal for first-time South Africa visitors.

This Kruger Safari and Panorama Route pairs two sides of South Africa’s Mpumalanga and Limpopo lowveld: the wildlife of Kruger and the dramatic scenery of the Panorama Route. You start in the escarpment, where the Drakensberg drops away into deep green canyons. You’ll stop at lookouts such as God’s Window and the Three Rondavels above the Blyde River Canyon, walk to the waterfalls and potholes at Bourke’s Luck and Lisbon Falls, and wander the old gold-rush streets of Pilgrim’s Rest.

Your days are filled with early-morning and late-afternoon game drives in search of lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, and rhinos, with giraffes, hippos, hyenas, and an enormous range of birds along the way. Your guide chooses routes and timing to make the most of each sighting. Wildlife is wild, so we can’t promise that every animal will appear, but several days of focused game viewing give you strong chances of seeing the Big Five.

What makes this the affordable luxury version is the balance. We combine private transport and an experienced guide with carefully chosen lodges, so you get comfortable rooms, good food, and time to rest between long days, without paying for extras you won’t use. Because the scenic drive and the safari sit side by side, you avoid long backtracking and spend more of the six days actually enjoying them.

The Kruger Safari and Panorama Route itinerary suits couples, honeymooners, families with older children, and first-time visitors who want both landscape and wildlife in one trip, and it combines easily with Johannesburg, Cape Town, or Victoria Falls. If you’d like a South African itinerary built around your dates, pace, and budget, talk to JimJam Safaris about a private Kruger and Panorama Route safari.

Kruger Safari and Panorama Route

How the route works

The Panorama Route and the Kruger region sit next to each other, so you can see both without long backtracking. The most popular stretch runs along the R532, from Sabie past waterfalls to God’s Window, the Blyde River Canyon, the Three Rondavels, and Bourke’s Luck Potholes. From there, the lowveld bush country begins. Hoedspruit is the gateway to the Timbavati, Thornybush, Klaserie, and Manyeleti reserves. That makes it a natural place to end the scenic section and start the safari.

We start with the scenery while you’re fresh and finish with the wildlife, which suits the shift in pace from sightseeing to long, quiet game drives.

Detailed Itinerary: 6-Day Kruger Safari and Panorama Route Package

Day 1: Johannesburg to Mbombela, Sabie Falls, and Graskop

Morning. Fly from Johannesburg to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (Mbombela). It is one of the main airports for the Kruger region, alongside Hoedspruit and Skukuza. Your guide meets you at arrivals and begins the drive into the escarpment.

Midday. Head toward Sabie and the Graskop area through forestry country, with mountain views opening up as you climb. Stop for lunch in a local café or restaurant.

Afternoon. Visit some of the waterfalls around Sabie, such as Mac Mac Falls, Lone Creek, and Berlin Falls, depending on your pace. If time allows, stop at Pilgrim’s Rest, a village with a gold-rush past. Lisbon Falls was named by Portuguese settlers who arrived in the area after gold was discovered near Pilgrim’s Rest.

Evening. Check in at a boutique guesthouse or lodge near Graskop. Dinner is in town or at the property. Go to bed early, since tomorrow is a long day.

Meals: Lunch (depending on flight arrival), dinner

Stay: Boutique lodge, Graskop or Sabie area

Day 2: The Panorama Route and on to the Lowveld

Early start. Aim to leave by about 8:00 am, so you reach the viewpoints before clouds, mist, or crowds build up. Weather on the escarpment can change quickly, so your guide adjusts the order of stops.

Morning. Stops usually include:

  • Lisbon Falls: The falls drop 94 meters.
  • God’s Window: A lookout over the lowveld and distant mountains.
  • Bourke’s Luck Potholes: Cylindrical rock pools carved by the Treur and Blyde rivers. One regional guide suggests about 45 minutes here.

Midday. Lunch at a viewpoint or a café in the area.

Afternoon. Continue to the Three Rondavels viewpoint over Blyde River Canyon, a good place for photos and quiet time. Then descend toward Hoedspruit and your safari lodge.

Evening. Arrive at your private reserve lodge in time for a sundowner or a short evening drive, if timing allows. Dinner and an early night follow.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

Stay: Luxury safari lodge, Hoedspruit area (Timbavati, Thornybush, or similar)

Day 3: Full day of Big Five game viewing

Early morning. Wake up around 5:00 to 5:30 am, with tea or coffee before heading out. The early drive is usually the best window for predators and active herds.

Mid-morning. A bush breakfast or coffee stop. Your ranger and tracker follow tracks, listen for alarm calls, and coordinate with other vehicles.

Midday. Return to the lodge for brunch or lunch, then rest, swim, or edit photos.

Afternoon. High tea, then an afternoon drive with sundowners. After dark, a spotlight may reveal leopards, hyenas, genets, and owls.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, high tea, dinner

Stay: Same lodge

Day 4: Tracking and photography focus

Today is tailored to your priorities. That might mean returning to a leopard territory, following a lion pride, or spending time at a waterhole. Photographers can ask for slower stops and better positioning.

Optional extras, subject to the lodge and availability:

  • A guided bush walk
  • A late-night spotlight drive
  • A conservation or tracking briefing

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, high tea, dinner

Stay: Same lodge

Day 5: Last full day on safari

Revisit favorite areas or look for any species you haven’t yet seen. Wildlife is wild, and no sighting can be guaranteed. Over four nights, most guests see most or all of the Big Five, and rhino and leopard are the hardest to predict. Finish with a sundowner or a private dinner under the stars.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, high tea, dinner

Stay: Same lodge

Day 6: Final drive and flight to Johannesburg

Morning. A last short game drive and breakfast, timed around your flight.

Late morning. Transfer to Hoedspruit airport for your flight to Johannesburg. Airlink has operated Johannesburg to Hoedspruit flights, but schedules change. We confirm the current timetable before booking and leave a buffer for any onward international connection. If your international flight leaves the same evening, allow a long connection or add a Johannesburg night.

Meals: Breakfast
