Ultimate 5-Day Fly-In Big Five Luxury Kruger Safari Package.
All-Inclusive Big Five Luxury Kruger Safari Package
Kruger is one of Africa’s best-known wildlife regions, and flying in makes it far easier to enjoy. Instead of spending a day or more on the road from Johannesburg, you take a short scheduled flight to an airstrip near the park and arrive with most of the day still ahead of you. That time goes into the bush. Over five days, you’ll spend your mornings and evenings on guided game drives, when lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, and rhinos are most active.
Kruger and the neighboring private reserves also protect hippos, giraffes, zebras, hyenas, wild dogs, and more than 500 bird species. Your guide and tracker work together to read tracks, follow alarm calls, and position the vehicle for the best viewing and photography. Wildlife is wild, so we can’t promise that every Big Five animal will appear. Over several days of focused game viewing, though, your chances of seeing all five are strong.
What makes this the affordable luxury version is how the pieces fit together. We pair the fly-in with a carefully selected safari lodge, private or small-group game drives, and comfortable rooms with good food, so you don’t pay for extras you won’t use. A private Big Five Luxury Kruger Safari itinerary also means you choose the pace, whether that’s a pre-dawn start for a leopard or a slower morning with a long breakfast on the deck.
The Big Five Luxury Kruger Safari works well as a stand-alone safari or as a short, high-impact addition to Cape Town, the Garden Route, or Victoria Falls. If you’d like a Kruger safari built around your dates, group size, and budget, talk to JimJam Safaris about a private itinerary with flights, lodging, and game drives arranged for you.

Why the Big Five Luxury Kruger Safari Fly-in?
There are direct Airlink flights from Johannesburg to Skukuza, with a scheduled flight time of about 1 hour. The same alternative by road is a long day, so flying gives you more bush time. Skukuza Airport serves Kruger National Park and the Sabi Sand private reserves. Other fly-in options exist, and visitors can also fly into Kruger Mpumalanga International (Nelspruit) or Hoedspruit. Hoedspruit suits lodges in the Timbavati and Thornybush areas, while Skukuza suits Sabi Sand.
Flight days and times change, so we check the current Airlink schedule when we build your itinerary. For reference, one March 2026 afternoon flight was timetabled to leave Johannesburg at 13:05 and land at Skukuza at 14:05. If your international flight lands in Johannesburg late, we recommend an airport hotel night first rather than risking a missed connection.
Detailed Itinerary: 5-Day Big Five Luxury Kruger Safari Package
Day 1: Johannesburg to Skukuza, first evening game drive
Morning. Meet your JimJam Safaris representative at OR Tambo International for a smooth connection to the Skukuza flight. Check in with your bags and snacks for the flight.
Midday. The flight takes about an hour, with views over the escarpment and the lowveld. At Skukuza, your lodge driver or guide meets you for the transfer into the reserve. Many Sabi Sand lodges are a short drive from the airstrip.
Afternoon. Check in, have lunch or high tea, and meet your ranger and tracker. They’ll explain how drives work, how to behave around wildlife, and how to plan around your interests (leopard, photography, birding, or general viewing).
Evening. Your first game drive runs from late afternoon into dusk, with a sundowner stop in the bush. After dark, spotlight searches sometimes turn up leopards, hyenas, genets, and owls. Dinner is served at the lodge, often in a boma or on a deck.
- Meals: Lunch (depending on flight time), dinner
- Stay: Luxury lodge, Sabi Sand area
Day 2: Full day of Big Five game viewing
Early morning. Wake-up call around 5:00 to 5:30 am, depending on the season, with tea, coffee, and a light snack before heading out. The early drive is usually the best window for predators and active herds.
Mid-morning. Enjoy a bush breakfast or a coffee stop in a safe viewing spot. Your ranger and tracker follow tracks, listen for alarm calls, and radio other vehicles to find sightings.
Midday. Return for brunch or lunch, then rest, swim or edit photos. Heat and animal activity both peak at midday, so most wildlife is resting too.
Afternoon. High tea at around 3:30 to 4:00 pm, followed by the afternoon drive and sundowners. After dark, you may see nocturnal species on the way back.
Evening. Dinner with other guests or a private table, depending on the lodge.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, high tea, dinner
Stay: Same lodge
Day 3: Tracking and photography focus
Your guide tailors today to whatever you most want to see. That may mean returning to a leopard territory, following a lion pride, or spending time at a waterhole for elephants. Photographers can ask for longer stops and positioning, and slower drives suit anyone who prefers quality time with a sighting over covering ground.
Optional extras, subject to lodge policy and availability:
- A guided bush walk for tracks, plants, birds, and smaller wildlife
- A late-night spotlight drive
- Time with a conservation or anti-poaching briefing, if your lodge offers one
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, high tea, dinner
Stay: Same lodge
Day 4: Last full day in the bush
This is a good day to revisit the experiences you enjoyed most or to try something new. Your ranger can help you look for any Big Five species you haven’t yet seen, but wildlife is wild, and no sighting can be guaranteed. Over four nights, most guests see most or all of the five, with rhino and leopard being the hardest to predict.
Evening options include a private dinner under the stars, a sundowner at a scenic viewpoint, or a farewell celebration at the lodge.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, high tea, dinner
Stay: Same lodge
Day 5: Final drive and flight home
Early morning. A last short game drive and breakfast, timed around your flight.
Late morning. Transfer to Skukuza airstrip for your flight to Johannesburg. We schedule departures with plenty of buffer for any connecting international flight and recommend allowing a long connection or an overnight stay in Johannesburg.
Meals: Breakfast
