All-Inclusive Primates Adventure Safari Package in Uganda
The Ultimate 5-Day Primates Adventure Safari (Bwindi and Kibale). Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi (Rushaga Sector) and Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale National Park.
Experience prime primate encounters on our Ultimate 5-Day Primates Adventure Safari (Bwindi & Kibale), an all-inclusive, small-group or private package that pairs world-class mountain-gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest (Rushaga sector) with chimpanzee tracking in Kibale National Park. You’ll be met by an expert guide and transferred in a comfortable private vehicle to hand-picked lodges near the parks, with porter service, park permits, park fees, meals, and guided treks included so you can focus on the wildlife. In Bwindi, you’ll trek through misty rainforest to spend the permitted hour observing mountain gorillas, a moving, once-in-a-lifetime experience, while Kibale’s experienced trackers lead you into Africa’s primate capital to find playful chimpanzee troops (treks typically last 2–5 hours depending on movements).
This Primates Adventure Safari itinerary is perfect for nature photographers, families, honeymooners, and first-time primate travellers who want maximum encounters with minimal fuss: think early-morning tracking, relaxed lodge evenings, and cultural add-ons like Batwa community visits. Because gorilla permits (and the best trekking dates) are limited, we handle permit booking and advise reserving early to guarantee your chosen dates and group size. The Primates Adventure Safari is designed with conservation and safety front-of-mind. Our guides follow Uganda Wildlife Authority protocols to minimize disease risk and disturbance to primates, so your visit supports protection efforts while delivering unforgettable close-up wildlife moments.
Detailed Itinerary: 5-Day Uganda Primates Adventure Safari
Day 1 — Arrival & Bwindi transfer (Rushaga)
Arrive in Kampala or Entebbe and meet your expert guide for a comfortable private transfer southwest toward Bwindi’s Rushaga sector, passing tea plantations and rolling hills. Check in at a hand-picked forest-edge lodge, unpack, and enjoy a short orientation that covers permits, fitness expectations, and the following morning’s briefing; porters can help with bags and muddy boots. Late afternoon offers a gentle walk in nearby forest fringes for birding, colobus-spotting, or a cultural visit to meet local villagers, giving photographers soft light practice before the big trek and letting you rest early for tomorrow’s pre-trek start.
Day 2 — Gorilla trekking in Rushaga (the once-in-a-lifetime day)
Rise early for the park briefing and transfer to your Rushaga trailhead, where Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers and trackers assign groups based on fitness and gorilla locations. Trek time is highly variable, from under an hour to several hours, because groups roam; once found, you’ll have the official one-hour viewing period to observe social behaviour, infants, and silverbacks under ranger guidance. Wear sturdy boots and expect steep, muddy sections; porters and guides assist where allowed. After the hour, you’ll return to the lodge for a warm shower, debrief with your guide, and a relaxed dinner to absorb the emotion of the encounter.
Day 3 — Scenic transfer to Kibale with community and Batwa options
After a leisurely breakfast, depart Bwindi for the drive north toward Fort Portal and Kibale, stopping for photo opportunities at viewpoints and local tea estates. En route, you can visit a Batwa community for a culturally sensitive Batwa experience (timed to support community projects), stretch legs at a roadside market, or detour to crater lakes. Arrive at your hand-picked Kibale lodge in the afternoon, meet the Kibale guide team, and receive a briefing for tomorrow’s Kanyanchu chimp trek, spare time for birdwatching by the lodge, or an early evening nature trail.
Day 4 — Chimpanzee tracking in Kibale (Kanyanchu)
Pre-dawn coffee and briefing before heading to Kanyanchu, where experienced trackers and UWA rangers lead small groups into Kibale’s primate-rich forest to locate habituated chimp troops. Treks commonly last two to five hours, depending on troop movements; trackers use radio updates to find chimps efficiently. When chimps are located, enjoy close but regulated viewing while following strict health and distance rules to protect both people and apes. Afternoon options include a second shorter forest walk, photography editing time, or a relaxed lodge spa; remember, permits are limited, so bookings are arranged well in advance.
Day 5 — Bigodi Wetland, wrap and departure:
Begin with a guided Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary walk: boardwalks and a canopy hide reveal abundant birdlife (many species), red-tailed monkeys and Uganda colobus, and community conservation projects that your visit supports. After the swamp walk, return for brunch, pack, and check out; depending on your onward plan, you can stop at tea plantations or Fort Portal for a cultural market visit before completing your transfer back to Kampala/Entebbe. Your guide will handle permit paperwork and transfer logistics so you reach your next destination or flight with memories, photos, and conservation certificates in hand.
